OCNJ CARE, a volunteer organization formed hours after the hurricane subsided, has already helped hundreds of Ocean City residents with food, clothing and shelter needs.
The group has recruited dozens of volunteers from Ocean City and surrounding areas. CARE project partners include the City of Ocean City, Chamber of Commerce, Ecumenical Council, School District, St. Peters United Methodist Church, the Ocean City Tabernacle, Board of Realtors, Ocean City PTA, and the local Firemen and Policemen’s Benevolent Associations.
The most pressing need at this point is cash donations to assist residents in obtaining temporary housing and to cover disaster related injuries, says Drew Fasy, CARE chairperson.
People have to be relocated and need financial assistance.
Fasy notes that some property owners have offered their rental units and in some cases summer homes, but the need goes far beyond that although he would appreciate on-going help from second homeowners.
Checks should be made out to OCNJCARE and mailed Post Office Box 807, Ocean City, N.J. 08226, dropped off at Ocean City Home Bank, 10th and Asbury Ave or visit www.ocnjcare.org.
OCNJCARE in cooperation with their civic partners have established the following assistance centers:

I am so very touched by the open arms of so many to bring warmth, love and necessities to the victims of this devastation. Family comes first, so God bless all of the families who are holding on to each other and with joint strength building new friendships, homes and restoration to a sacred island. This island was my childhood and that of my own children. In a renewed direction it will be the sacred island of many generations yet to be born. This year, every step forward is a new day of Thanksgiving! Thank you for seeing beyond yourself and lifting up those in even more dire situations. It's a beautiful thing to behold.

I am sure 2nd homeowners can help if they were spared the losses themselves. I am finding out insurance does not pay for drywall, or capeting that is not in living space. I am finding out that flood insurance doesn't cover what one would assume it covers so costs are climbing for our loss. I am extremely thankful I have a place to live that was not affected by flooding and hope that those who lost their homes or use of their homes and have no place to go are receiving the help that they need from FEMA and other sources. I know in Ocean City there are those who genuinely want to help people and I commend those that genuinely want to help.

Due to the leadership of this group, many of us would not want anything to do with it. That is sad, but that is true.

Looks mlike the old LEMONTS MARINA sustained quite a bit of dock damage 1:47 on Jeff Holloways video. I can only imagine what damage was done to the interior and most important the pilings and sewer lines under the building as it is/was all totally exposed. Couldn't see all of the way to the end of the dock but the dock inbetween the store and the shop is all torn up as I would assume the dock between the North Star store and dock will need total replacement and that I saw from Chopper 6 News when they hovered over the marina. When I/WE had Lemonts from 1985 til 2002 we had several nasty storms. We survived narrowly with some dock damage and store and piling damage but not as bad as this one. Hopefully Art will be able to reopen this coming season but from where I sit it won't happen and that is a shame . I/WE feel so badly for ALL of the property owners in OC. The "OLD GIRL" ( Lemonts ) from what I understand was built back in the 20's. The structure is built in the old balloon style. In the Nor-easters she would rock & roll. After a while you wouldn't feel right that in a blowing Nor-easter she wouldn't rock & roll. Ah, well I sincerely hope that with time and much construction and much money the old girl will come alive again . Fred & Betty Ann Naegele
