OCFD Story Time at Library Offers Reading, Rolling and More
The Ocean City Fire Department uses the library to teach children about fire safety.
The Ocean City Fire Department visited the Ocean City Free Public Library Wednesday morning to read to children and to teach fire safety.
During the half-hour program, the children saw firefighter Ray Clark dress in full gear, listened to a story read by Capt. Jim Smith, and learned how to stop drop and roll.
The Fire Department did a lot more than read a story to the children. They made the kids feel comfortable with a firefighter in full "costume" as Clark described it. Parents explained how this would help their children in a stressful situation if it were ever to happen.
By doing the story time, the OCFD taught the "rights and wrongs" of fire safety. For example: Leave the house and don't go back in during a fire.
The stop, drop, and roll was the most exciting for the children. Each one was assisted in rolling by the firefighters and then received a sticker and a high-five from Capt. Chris Meyer and firefighter Steve Peifer.
Another story time will be scheduled at a future date still to be determined. The program is free.

The Firefighters did a great job. The children really enjoyed the whole program. It is nice that we have programs like that in our community.
