Info Session on Marina Proposal Set for Today

The city will answer questions about a potential project at Second Street and Bay Avenue at a public meeting June 25.

The City of Ocean City will host an information session on the proposed improvements to the marina at Second Street and Bay Avenue.

The public is invited to attend the event 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 25, at the Bayside Center (off Bay Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets). Representatives from Ocean City Marina LLC and the city’s Department of Community Services will be there to answer questions.

The proposal includes improvements for public recreation on the public land and for a privately operated marina.

Neighbors with questions and everybody interested in the project are encouraged to review the proposed plans or speak with city and Ocean City Marina LLC representatives. The information session will not include a formal presentation.

“This is a great opportunity for neighbors to see the plans detailing the proposal,” Communty Services Director Jim Mallon said. “Marina and city staff will be available to answer any questions residents may have specific to the proposed improvements.”

Residents who are unable to attend can email questions to Jim Mallon at jmallon@ocnj.us or call 609-399-6111.

Anyone interested in getting together before this meeting, to unify our concerns, compliments and/or questions, please contact me, Tammy DiGiorgio @ 609-705-1122. I attended the City Council Mtg. on 6/14/12 where Mr. Scarborough gave an informal presentation to Council. I will be attending this information session with specific prepared questions. At the time of the Council Mtg. last week, nothing was known. Mr. Scarborough was not even on the adgenda so it should be interesting to see how much info. they gather by the 25th. Lets get together so we can work together!

In addition, notice the TIME of this information session? What about those who work? If you have concerns but cannot make the City's Mtg. on the 25th, by getting together with others, to express your feelings, you can be sure that you are heard without being there! BTW, getting together with your neighbors isn't necessarily "for" or "against" the proposed Marina........we won't know what "page we are on" until we all get together. If each of us go with our own adgenda (to the City's Mtg. on the 25th) we may not have enough time to get down to the "nitty gritty". Maybe you are concerned about liability issues and someone else is concerned about fire engine access.....we may all have valid concerns....let's find out.....call me, Tammy, 609-705-1122. I am just a property owner, nothing more, nothing less.

Will the homeowners on Bay Ave. across the street get the boat slips that were supposed to come with the purchase of their homes? Anyone remember that fiasco???

Wow! Duffer, we NEED to hear all of this! I have only lived in this part of OC sine 2008. Before that, we were in the South End. I am sure there is so much history and promises made and broken regarding many City issues. Let's get this moving in the right direction! I am available pretty much any time. My daughter is out of school for the summer so whenever others are available, I'm there! The key is to get this done BEFORE the 25th.

OK here it is. There will be a vote on the marina deal on Thursday night at the City Council meeting. It's on the consent agenda so there will be no first or second reading and no opportunity for public comment (unless the item is pulled). As of today a lease agreement between the City and Scarborough was distributed to council members. The terms of that agreement have not been publically disclosed.

The incorporation for the LLC was issued on October 17, 2011, so this project has been in the works for some time. Comments from the council members attending indicate that they're prepared to vote for the deal (although several of them admitted that they haven't read the terms of the lease as yet). According to what was disclosed at the public "information session" tonight, under private management the slips will rent from between $5,000 and $7,000 per year. Currently (according to coucilman Hartzell) they rent for $1700. After a 5 year period (I haven't seen the lease agreement but this is what I heard) the City will receive a percentage of the revenue. There is no ratable because the property is publically owned.

Clearly this is a sweet deal for Scarborough, and Council and the Adminsitration are already on board. Much must have happened between October 17 of last year and the present (of which the public was not informed).

As to the distribution of the lease agreement I was going on what I was told by a council member. Other council members stated they have not received a copy of the lease. As for the City receiving a portion of the revenue after 5 years, that again was a statement made by a council elect. Other statements contradict it. I apologize for any confusion, but I was only repeating what I was told. No one seem to really KNOW the terms of the agreement, and much of what I did hear was contradictory.

I should say "support the deal" since some of the council members I refered to haven't been seated as yet. Is this a slam dunk or what?

Ok a great new attraction for the city helping tourism plus amenties for the locals. Does everybody realize there would be no accss to the bay at all if left to the private sector?. The City has already lost all the rest except for the bayside center which is underutilized. Here it comes. Watch the negative minority get the attention and kill something good for the town. It happens over and over here because the elected leaders have no vision beyond the next the election.

OCLocal access to the harbor (the docks) will be controlled by the private sector under this deal. They will only be accessible to you if you're prepared to rent a slip from Scarborough. I had to read your post a couple of times to determine where you stand on the issue. I think the harbor, which is public property, should remain accessible to the public. If that makes me a "negative minority" so be it.

There was discussion as to whether they would have reserved parking spaces for the people who rent the slips.
