Ocean City Announces Summer Concert Series Schedule

The Ocean City Music Pier will be host to a Monday-night rock concert series and a full schedule of Pops and Theatre Company shows.

Rock concerts return to the Ocean City Music Pier on Monday nights this summer with a lineup that includes:

  • Get the Led Out (Led Zeppelin tribute band, June 24)
  • Jay and the Americans (1960s pop, July 1)
  • Dave Mason (of Traffic and solo fame, July 8)
  • Jars of Clay (Christian rock, July 15)
  • Hot Tuna Electric (blues rock, July 22)
  • Leon Russell (five-decade rock journeyman, July 29)
  • Rusted Root (fusion of rock, acoustics and world music, August 12)

Working in partnership with Bob Rose Entertainment, the City of Ocean City announced the schedule this week. Rose also produced last summer's concert series after five years of concerts promoted by the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey as part of its Stockton Goes to the Beach series.

The 2013 Summer Concert Series joins a full lineup of Ocean City Pops and Ocean City Theatre Company shows on the Music Pier.

“Ocean City is well-known for family entertainment and exciting events that add to our visitor’s vacation experience,” Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said. “This year’s entertainment lineup will continue this tradition with quality shows and a variety of entertainment that all ages can enjoy.”

24th-Get the Led Out- 7:30pm at the Music Pier. Get The Led Out is a group of professional musicians who are passionate about their love of the music of Led Zeppelin. It's been their mission to bring the studio recordings of "the mighty Zep" to life on the big concert stage. 8th- Dave Mason, 7:30pm at the Music Pier  Dave Mason, singer-songwriter and guitarist, first found fame in the 60’s with the rock band Traffic.  In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many notable pop and rock musicians, including Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison,  and Fleetwood Mac. Mason's best known song is "Feelin' Alright", recorded by Traffic in 1968 and later by many other performers, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. 15th- Jars of Clay, 7:30pm at the Music Pier. Jars of Clay is a Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee that was formed in the 1970’s when they met at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois. Jars of Clay consists of Dan Haseltine on vocals, Charlie Lowell on piano and keyboards, Stephen Mason on lead guitars and Matthew Odmark on rhythm guitars. 22nd-Hot Tuna, 7:30pm at the Music Pier. An American blues-rock band, Hot Tuna was formed by bassist Jack Casady and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen as a spin-off of Jefferson Airplane.  Hot Tuna plays acoustic and electric versions of original and traditional blues songs.  Hot Tuna began during a hiatus in Jefferson Airplane's touring schedule in early 1969.  Hot Tuna’s most recent album “Steady as She Goes” was released in April of 2011.  Tickets on sale through TicketMaster 1-800-745-3000 or at www.ticketmaster.com.

29th- Leon Russel- 7:30PM at the Music Pier. Leon Russell, an American musician and songwriter legend, was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and began playing piano at the age of four. Russell worked as a pianist on the recordings of many notable musical artists from the 1960s and 70’s including George Harrison, Eric Clapton, BB King and Bob Dylan. 7th- Ocean City Pops Tribute to Marvin Hamlisch – 8pm Ocean City Music Pier With Juilliard pianist Joseph Mohan and vocalist Jody Kidwell. As a composer, Hamlisch won virtually every major award that exists - numerous Oscars, Grammys, Emmys and Golden Globes. For Broadway he wrote the music for his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, as well as They're Playing Our Song, Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success. 9th & 10th – ‘Big Bad’ - The most notorious criminal in the fairy-tale world, Big Bad Wolf, is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by the countless quirky characters he has wronged.  Now, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — will clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after. The show will feature talents of youth performers from the OCTC Theatre Camp.
