Artists Nancy Palermo and Susan Rau have coordinated once again to create another beautiful mural. Gracing the walls of the Ocean City Free Public Library are 10 authors sitting on the beach with their most famous works.

Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King, J.K Rowling, Gay Talese, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Margaret Atwood, William Shakesphere, James Joyce and Maya Angelou are depicted.

While sketching it out, Palermo thought of which authors would like to speak with each other. After seeing that some authors would not be recognized by face, she decided to add books, making it the perfect beach day.

"I think it is inspiring, and it helps to show people to pay more attention to what authors look like," Palermo says

Susan painted the background of the boardwalk that shows recognizable buildings and added the Hogwarts castle (from Rowling's "Harry Potter" books) to the mix.

"It is fun to walk in and see something different."

Both artists paint fairly quickly, and the project took only a couple of weeks to complete. The painting was finished just before Christmas and the First Night attendees enjoyed the new work.

Many of the passersby in the library have fun trying to guess the authors.

Palermo and Rau have painted the Tabernacle Youth Center, put together scenery for The Last Supper. Every Tuesday, Rau teaches art to the mentally and physically challenged.

I agree with Paige Malone Mengel, would love to know which books are on there. When we see the blow-ups of each author, it doesn't show the books.

The Books are as follows. Misery and The Shining next to Stephen King, Unto the Sons next to Gay Talese, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer next to Mark Twain, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and the Old Man and the Sea next to Ernest Hemingway, The Handmaid's Tale next to Margaret Atwood, Dubliners and Finnegans Wake next to James Joyce, and I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings in Maya Angelou's Lap

Have urged my son to take our grandchildren in the "back way" to see the mural; they visit the Library on a bi-weekly basis. Foster, the second oldest, is a "reader', and will certainly identify most, if not all, the celebs. Have to admit that I failed on Stephen King and James Joyce. But, what fun!
