Master Plan Workshop Set for Wednesday
The Planning Board is working to finish a revised document that guides zoning and land use in Ocean City.
The Ocean City Planning Board has scheduled a workshop for Wednesday to re-examine its Master Plan, now in the final stages before potential approval.
The workshop is open to the public and scheduled as part of a Planning Board meeting 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, in Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall.
The board is in the process of updating its Master Plan, a document that guides zoning and land-use decisions for the city. The plan attempts to balance the interests of residents and businesses, development and preservation.
The extensive process included public input and will include another public presentation on the final draft of the Master Plan — likely to be scheduled for later this month.
The public presentation will be videotaped, and the plan also will be posted on the city website, where feedback will be solicited.
A joint Planning Board-City Council meeting on the Master Plan will likely be scheduled before a final public hearing on the plan takes place. The Planning Board could potentially adopt the plan later this fall.

The Master Plan which is supposed to balance residential interests and business interests? I will believe it when I see it! Interests in this town are always based on what the developers and Realtors want, and pitched to the residents (who pay in taxes for these so-called balances of interests) as advantageous to the residents. I hate to be cynical, but I have seen tremendous change over the years in this town ever inching its way to turning a summer beach community into a Seaside Heights, or Ocean City, Maryland. If it were not for Wetlands Act, you would be able to walk to Somers Point, so there would be more business for developers and Realtors.
