We are in the middle of the island (Gold Coast). We didn't lose power, and the streets are wet but not flooded, nothing more than some water along the gutters. The street lights are on. The rain was nothing we have not experienced before during a strong rain storm. The wind was often very strong and noisy, but the neighborhood houses seem to be in good shape.

Just back from the beach. Woke up about 5:45 because it was so quiet. Dunes are holding. Ocean up to the dunes. Path breached at 5th but water just went under the boardwalk and not past. Loking down the boardwalk all looks fine.

Good Morning all. Good go for a good Ready's breakfast....open today? :) I am surprised since it is high tide that the flooding out front of my home is not too bad. I got 3 hours sleep last night and honestly expected to wake up to water up to the window. Saw a car drive down Bay. not sure if the bridge is open or if they are letting people come home. Will probably go out soon to see. Based on my small area, I'm hoping the rest of the island is intact.

We just took a walk around the lower 20s, Wesley to West. Wesley, Central, Asbury and West in this area and south are drivable. We saw quite a few cars. The side streets between West and Bay are flooded, although Bay appears to be drivable - we saw cars going past there as well. There is some water along the gutters that seems to be an issue of drains clogged with leaves.
Mild wind from the south, clouds appear to be breaking up over the ocean. The boardwalk looks clear. We saw no property damage at all - even the doormat that I forgot to pull in was still there, saw no downed lines, no downed poles or trees. Leaf-and-twig debris along West.
Relative who stayed in the Hamilton Mall area lost power from 8 PM until 4:30 am. We did not lose power at all in our area.
I would say that whether you can get into OC depends on whether the OC base of the bridges has flooded, and whether there are streets between Bay and the east side that are crossable.

Just drove down to Atlantic around 5th/6th. Atlantic is clear. The side streets - Pelham (I think it's Pelham) Plaza, 7th clear to the boardwalk. No problems at all. Ocean and Atlantic from 5th to 9th are fine. Saw some small downed branches on Ocean between 9th and 20th and what looked like one torn awning on Ocean.
Looking west, a lot of streets have cleared between West and Bay.

I don't believe there is any flooding outside of what we might see at a full moon high tide combined with a rain storm. I will head out again soon and try to look specifically at some of the locations asked about in previuos posts.

Got into my house on Seacliff Road in the Gardens. No damage. Beach even still looks good. Irene was not mean there.

Thanks for all the posts! Has anyone heard whether Stenton Place had flooding? (1.5 block street between Corinthian and Atlantic (north end)). Thanks in advance for any info! Laurie

Hi Doug wing.... I am so hoping you are referring to Stenton in your post! If so, are you sure it was not subjected to any surge flooding last night? Just concerned as my mom's duplex sits right on the ground without a single step up. Thanks again for any clarification. Also, I can only repeat others' sentiment that the information being posted is so comforting for those of us far away. Many many thanks.

Plan on visiting beach and boardwalk tomorrow. Will the shops on the boards be open?

Without question. Boards are coming off or are already off as we speak.

Thanks to Douglas Bergen and all of you who have posted on this site. We have a home in Ocean City, but our permanent residence is in IL. As several others commented, it was very difficult to monitor what was going on in NJ from afar. I just now discovered this site, and the comments above have been so encouraging. We have a lot to be thankful for on this Sunday afternoon. And we will be sure to start here if faced with a similar situation in the future.

Just talked to Atlantic City electric guy making a repair and he told me, " Just about all power has been restored. There is very little damage anywhere from what I can see. Island should be right back up and running. I am going to the island grill for dinner, which just opened at 4:30. I think most people will be quite pleased with the way they find there homes.

I traveled back to OC from Westfield on the GSP this afternoon. There was a detour from exits 98 to 90 but that was uneventful. Otherwise the parkway was the least crowded that I have ever seen it. I came on to the island over the 34th street bridge and there were no delays. I was delighted to observe that everything looks great here in OC - people are arriving, boards are coming off homes, there is some flooding, but when isn't there after a storm of any kind? I expect things to be pretty much back to normal here tomorrow. It's great to be back!

Megh. 14th and Pleasure is fine. No damage evident. Street is dry.

In fact, every part of the city I've seen is in great shape. You'd hardly know there was a storm. Very little beach erosion evident around 12th and 13th (the only area i checked). A few boardwalk businesses are open. Superfresh on 8th and West is open. Beautiful night here!

9th Street bridge is closed. It was closed when we got to town about 6 and was still closed a few minutes ago. Don't know about 34th St. Longport bridge is open with no tolls until the morning.

All good on mid 2nd street. Once house lost electric wires. Doesn't look like a hurricane came through. You can see water lines and debris down towards Corinthian. Looks like it flooded as usual. Had to love the empty parkway today!

Many thanks to OCPatch for this message board and all who participated. While we had more questions than answers over the weekend, the comments from those on the island were timely and reassuring.

How is OC? I saw pictures of flooding on the internet. Did the 20" and Asbury get flooded. My Dad has a house there. Atlantic City looks like it got damage.
