Half-Marathon and 5K Races Set for Sunday

Registration for the half-marathon must be in by 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

Two races on Sunday, Oct. 2, will benefit Ocean City Recreation scholarships and programs.

The second annual goes off at 9 a.m. with the 13.1-mile course going back and forth across the scenic Ocean City-Longport Bridge and finishing on the Boardwalk near the .

A 5-kilometer run/walk starts at 9:15 a.m. with race-day registration starting at 7 a.m. at the Music Pier.

There will be no race-day registration for the half-marathon. Online registration closes at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. And in-person registration closes at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

Race applications are available at , 846 Asbury Ave., or online. Pre-registration fees are $60 for the half-marathon and $20 for the 5K. The Sneaker Shop's Facebook page will have updates on the races as the events approach.

A pre-race pasta dinner is planned for 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the . The dinner is provided by the Ocean City Restaurant Association (Adults $12/ Children $8) with notice of attendance required by Thursday (lrumer@ocnj.us).

The races are planned as a community event with Gillian's Wonderland Pier's Wonder Bear, Ocean City High School's Red Raider and Mr. Taffy serving as mascots. Seven water stations will be manned by: OCHS Field Hockey, OCHS Soccer, OC Intermediate cross country, OC C-Cerpant Swim Team, Stingray's Swim Team, Ocean City Primary School parents and students and the Padula Family.

The 5K awards are planned for 10:30 a.m., and the half-marathon awards will be at noon.
