Crash Kills 2010 Ocean City High School Graduate

Christopher Sack, 18, of Tuckahoe died Monday in a single-car crash on a dirt road in the Tuckahoe section of Upper Township.
Sack, a 2010 graduate of Ocean City High School, was driving a Dodge Durango on the dirt portion of West Sunrise Road about one-tenth of a mile from Route 664 (Mt. Pleasant-Tuckahoe Rd) when he lost control of the SUV, State Police in the Woodbine barracks said early Tuesday morning.
The Durango left the road, hit a tree, flipped upside down and hit two more trees, according to police.
Three passengers were able to get out of the crashed SUV, but Sack was trapped inside. He was pronounced dead after rescue crews extricated him.
Jeffrey Pinkerton of Corbin City and two female passengers, whom police did not identify because they are minors, were transported to Shore Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The crash happened about 6:45 p.m. on Memorial Day and Sack was pronounced dead at 7:32 p.m. Police did not say if alcohol was a factor in the crash. They said the accident is still under investigation.

Almost every week we read about someone going off the road and hitting a tree with a resulting serious injury or fatality. More emphasis should be given in driver training and by the media letting everyone know that hitting a tree is similar to hitting another vehicle head on. It's not like going off the road into a field. It is easy to forget that in this case trees are not your friends. Trees to not give way like a pole might.
