Alleged Identity Theft Leads to Chase From TD Bank

A 31-year-old North Wildwood man is charged with forgery and identity theft after an incident on Sunday.

Some Ocean City residents noticed a lot of police activity at the TD Bank on Ninth Street at 11:42 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9.

The Ocean City Police Department sent information today about the arrest of a 31-year-old North Wildwood man for allegedly trying to open a bank account with false identification.

As police responded, the suspect drove out of the bank parking lot in a white Honda and sped down Simpson Avenue, according to Ocean City Police Capt. Steven Ang.

The Honda stopped at 16th Street, where the driver and three passengers got out and tried to run, Ang said.

But within a short time, officers had taken all four into custody.

Ivan Gonzalez Pagan Torres, 31, of North Wildwood, was arrested and charged with forgery and theft of identity.

The passengers in the vehicle were family members of Torres and have not been charged. Torres was released on a summons at the conclusion of the investigation.

The investigating officers -- Sgt. Pat Randles Ptl. Doug Swillo and Ptl. Tyrone Rolls -- also filed several motor vehicle charges against the driver of the vehicle.  A follow-up investigation by Det. Mark Pancoast led to the forgery and identity theft charges.
