The list was announced on Sunday afternoon outside of the First Street station.

Competition is good Fred and hopefully this year, the jobs went to those who earned them, by competing best. No private test, no in-town test, no nepotism, or cronyism for the 2012 rookies and a few returning former guards who also competed. Congratulations to all, may they learn a lot and enjoy the summer on the beach.

Come on Fred ! For the summer of 2012, why don't you step up and highlight the really important people of the OCBP. That would be the unsung, day in and day out OCBP lifeguards who make rescues. That you would have to agree, is why the Patrol exists in the first place. The competition stuff has its place, but saving a life is certainly way more significant than some result of a patrol competition. As a great researcher of OCBP history, you could get the names of the guards who each week do the important work in lifeguarding. Give them deserved recognition and credit in the Patch. The competition guards get plenty in local papers. Just a thought, Fred.

My heart aches for the amazing athletes that didn't make it. I was once one of you and encourage you to try again. Think about the event where you may have needed a bit more work and try in the spring to practice a little more. You can do it. Best of Luck.

Come to find out in July,2012, that neither the OCBP or the City will release the full results of the rookie test ( OPRA, request denied). So much for transparency in testing. Mullineaux reads the names of those selected and then thanks the rest of the candidates for trying out.. Those amazing athletes that didn't make the OCBP are sent away without seeing where they need to improve for another attempt next year.
This has been the scenario with Mullineaux at the helm, "tell them nothing and avoid any questioning as to the testing results and selection of rookies to the OCBP".Now the City administration has denied OPRA request for that information, whereas in the past, it was possible to have OPRA request complied with. The current OCBP director is still fighting Ethics violations of several years ago, which included "changing of City records"! So, one can only wonder why the OCBP director and now for 2012 the City, seem to want to keep the OCBP 2012 Rookie test results from the public. What would OCBP Historian Fred, have to say about that?

OCBP 2012 Rookie Class Hiring Update !
26 men and women were selected from a field of 63 for the 2012 Ocean City Beach Patrol rookie class.Logically, one would assume that the 26 hired, placed best out of the 63 candidates in the two day, four event (only 3-events scoring) competitive test for a job on the OCBP.
NOT SO: candidates finishing #22, 23, 25, and 26 were not selected. Candidates finishing #27, 29, 32, and 33 were selected and hired. This information was obtained via an OPRA request, as that is the only way to determine results of the Rookie Test for 2012, with the City only providing partial results.
Director of Beach Patrol Operations (still & at $41,000-seasonal position) Mullineaux was found (9/15/2009) in violation of Ocean City Ethics Ordinance 2.15.5.B. which states, "no officer or employee shall use his or her official position to secure unwarranted privileges for himself, herself or others. Mullineaux is still fighting that finding by the OC Ethics Board and has a hearing in front of a judge in September. The finding included "the changing of official swim test documents". O/C Ethics Board- Complaint 1-2009(Final Report)
*Stated (Ocean City) City Policy Employee Handbook p.7, "decisions regarding hiring are based SOLELY on the qualifications and performance of the employee or prospective employee". So again(2012), what is going on? Maybe the historian can find out.
